Mind Machine Review: Procyon vs Nova Pro 100

Let’s get one thing clear before we even start here: Both the Procyon and Nova Pro 100 have really great options and your experience with each will be amazing.

Nova Pro 100 Light and Sound Mind MachineHowever, in the end, I do tend to recommend the Nova Pro/ColorTrack glasses option.  You definitely get more for the money with that combination.  The Procyon comes with tri-colored glasses which is able to produce basically an endless array of color combinations and patterns and the light is quite crisp.  The ColorTrack glasses are also crisp, and probably put out the brightest light of all glasses out there when used with the more powerful Nova Pro 100 – that is, you have the option of turning the light intensity higher if desired.  Not everyone cares for a really bright experience…some folks on the other hand want the light as bright as possible for maximum pattern and color visuals.

One thing to keep in mind about light and color as you go along in light and sound experiences, is that (as amazing as multi-colored sessions are) you may want to begin experimenting with pure or single colors.  Many people begin to start appreciating for example, solid blue during their deeper work, or bright white during more energizing sessions.  The Procyon sessions don’t allow for the selection of just one color; those glasses constantly change color in all sessions.  That’s not to say you won’t get a majority of blues and greens in more meditative sessions with the Procyon, it just means that you don’t have the control of pure color should you eventually desire it.  With the ColorTrack glasses, not only do you have the the ColorTrack option where you are delivered a full palette of colors during the course of any session, you also have the option of selecting ONLY a certain color…you basically get like 20 glasses in 1 – and they are totally worth it in my opinion.

Procyon Light and Sound Mind MachineOther miscellaneous notes: You have many more sessions to choose from with a Nova Pro and they are excellent sessions.  The sounds also tends to be fuller and deeper from the Nova Pro.  The NP is physically larger and heavier though, as it has a built-in rechargeable battery as well as a more sturdy metal casing which I think is nice to have in the long run.    If you would ever want to run a simultaneous session with someone, the NP has two light ports and two sound ports…it’s pretty cool to do a session with someone and then compare experiences.  A lot of clinical practitioners choose the Nova as it is a more complete package.  Both the NP and Procyon come with traveling cases which keep everything self contained.

If you need to travel as light as possible, the Procyon is more compact.  To my knowledge, the Procyon has a more updated session creation software if you think you may want to design your own.  Also, the Nova requires a serial port on your PC to connect in order to create your own stuff. I understand there are adapters one can get to connect in the absence of a serial port.  I believe most people don’t end up creating their own sessions anyway.  Both machines have many great built-in sessions to choose from and ways of customizing the experience, so they tend to not expand to that.

Six Minutes to Success

Bob Proctor – the creator of SIX MINUTES TO SUCCESS – provides a very focused and implementable steps to success. Instead of looking at too many things, Bob teaches you to focus your attention to what really matters for 6 minutes a day. He will explain and walk you through the steps, all you need to do is to follow his lead.

Here are just 5 secrets of success taken from the Six Minutes To Success program, all related to mindset and intention for focusing on what you are trying to accomplish. Take the information shared here and put them in practice…you will start experiencing some positive changes!

1. Adopt the “Abundance Mindset”

Believe it or not… it’s very easy to adopt the “Abundance Mindset”. Just always remember to THINK POSITIVE at every opportunity! With positive thinking and the right frame of mind, humans can accomplish some pretty amazing feats, some of which would normally be considered impossible by most people.

When you change your mindset, you change your world! You are what you think.

Successful people have a very unique mindset. Their beliefs and values are very different from those of other people. And they have adopted different habits that support their beliefs and helps them achieve their goals.

TIPS: Stay away from negative people and environments that can influence you negatively and drain your energy!

2. Have Dreams And Goals In Your Life

Be specific about your goals. For example, say “I will spend 6 minutes everyday watching the Success Techniques video provided by Bob Proctor and practice them”, rather than “I would like to learn Bob’s success techniques sometime.”

Follow the Six Minutes To Success program and create a PLAN to reach your goals, and stick to it. You may not see immediately success but if you continue with what you have started…. you will see success eventually.

3. Take ACTION

I can’t stress this enough…. Dreams and goals are useless if you don’t take action and make them REAL! Don’t let EXCUSES hold you back – just do it!

4. Never Stop Learning

The world is changing at a rapid pace… the only way to keep up is to have an open mind and commit to learning new things. If you are interested in a subject, make time to learn about it. Keep acquiring new skills – that’s the way to move forward!

5. Be Persistent And Work Smart.

Successful people have learned to work smart! They have learned to find other successful people they can model after so they don’t make the same mistakes other people did. And by doing so, you can save a lot of time, money, effort as well as some major headaches.

Also, NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER GIVE UP! To succeed in life, you must always keep charging forward no matter how many times you encounter failure and stumbling blocks.

These are just tips of an iceberg of what you will learn inside the Six Minutes To Success program.

It’s well worth spending 6 minutes of your time each day to start your day right with this program. Try doing it for the next 30 days and see what happens… You can create the kind of life that you desire by following the success techniques taught in this program. So, go sign up and start every single day with a sense of purpose, desire and the sense that anything is possible!

Meditation in a Nutshell

Simply put, meditation is a state of relaxed focus. It doesn’t have to be complex. It is a matter of getting comfortable, closing your eyes, and focusing inward.

What you choose to focus upon while in this relaxed state can vary according to what you desire at the time. Common focal points for meditators through the centuries are: repetition of a meaningful word or phrase; mindful awareness of the present moment (aka, Mindfulness); rhythm of one’s breath; flow of peace or healing energy through one’s body; cultivation of love, compassion, or forgiveness; objects; God, a holy being, or a saint; Nature; a loved one.  Some focus on just being, and keeping the hectic world at bay. The list is endless.  Of course, many – certainly not all – of our customers want to learn meditation to be able to calm themselves…shut off the chatter in their mind when they lay down to sleep.

By narrowing your focus and being still for even 15 minutes, you limit the “clatter” of your busy mind. Calming Mind and Body is invaluable not only for sleeping and your health, but for opening up to yourself and others. It is becoming mainstream for stress control and kicking addictions. Research studies have found that meditation can reduce depression and chronic pain, and increase the body’s immune response. It increases your ability to focus and concentrate. While meditating, some people like to visualize the way they want their life to be, or picture a perfect performance. Some simply want to see how deep they can go!

Contrary to popular ideas of meditation, there is no specific physical position you must get into, and there is no specific spiritual sect you must be a part of. But you certainly may find that the lotus position really is best for you, or that you want to incorporate spiritual or religious aspects into your time. Meditation is a universal process and there is no ONE way to enjoy it.  There are entire books written on meditation. And, of course, there are entire schools of thought on the subject. No matter the approach and aim of a specific type of meditation, they all – in our opinion – ultimately lead to the same place.

Many people today have a hard time entering and sustaining relaxed focus.  We are a society of multi-taskers.  We don’t know how to relax and clear our head.  But the important thing to remember is, whether your meditations are deep or light, short or long, your time spent practicing inward focus has value.  You’ll find the more you practice, the easier it is to go past the clatter and enter “the zone” of vivid, meaningful meditations.

Unfortunately, a lot of people give up before it gets easier.   Many great products exist as a bridge to relaxation, sleep and dreams.   CDs containing music and/or verbal guidance for meditation on a variety of subjects (i.e. wellness, stress control, consciousness exploration, sleep, etc).  Many books discuss meditation in much detail with expert guidance.   Finally, light and sound machines guide you through your mental clutter to the meditative zone of visualization and clarity.

Mind Machine Review: Proteus vs Nova Pro 100

The main difference between the Proteus and Nova Pro 100 machines are the options that each has, and therefore the price.  Both are effective, time-tested great systems, so you can’t really go wrong either way in these respects.

The Proteus is a mid-range system and has been around for a long time.  It allows for dual-colored lights, as does the Nova Pro 100.  It has 50 built-in sessions (sessions ready to use) and the capacity to create your own.  The Nova Pro also has the capacity for self-designed sessions but has 100 built-in sessions.  The vast majority of people tend not to design their own sessions and instead explore the built-in ones.  Therefore, the Nova is going to provide much more exploration over time in this regard.  The sound is better with the Nova Pro in terms of being deeper and more complex.  The light has the capacity to be brighter with the Nova Pro as well.

Proteus Light and Sound Mind MachineBoth machines allow the user to control the light and sound intensity to levels comfortable to the user.  Some people like really bright light and say they perceive more colors, shapes, etc with brighter light.  For them, the Nova Pro is the machine of choice as it produces the brightest of any of the machines on the market.  That’s not to say the Proteus doesn’t get plenty bright, but the Nova get brighter.  Both machines connect to a computer via a 9-pin serial port.  If you hope to design your own sessions, this is something to consider.  If not, don’t worry about the serial port.  Newer computers – especially laptops – do not have a serial port on them anymore.  There are USB-serial adapters available online though.  FYI, the Procyon machine has a USB interface.

Nova Pro 100 Light and Sound Mind MachineThe Proteus comes with glasses that have red and green leds.  The Nova Pro has the option during purchase for you to choose your glasses color.  The most popular glasses choice for the Nova Pro are the ColorTrack glasses.  They are like 20 glasses in one and then some.  They have two different modes: your choice of a solid color throughout a session, or the color track mode for a session.  The color track mode senses the frequency during a session and changes the color being delivered.  So you receive a myriad of different colors and perceptions throughout your session.  Very cool!  Again, FYI, the Procyon also changes colors throughout a session but there is no option to set it to stay on a specific color throughout, such as blue.

Additionally, the Nova Pro allows for two simultaneous users as it has 2 sound ports and 2 light ports.  The Nova has a built-in rechargeable battery, higher quality headphones (although you can use about any headphones with both machines if you wanted to upgrade from a local store), and a nicer carrying/storage case.  Both have auxiliary ports for adding your own music or voice programs.  The Nova Pro has a microphone port to allows real-time voice to be added to a program, like for vocal guidance/visualizations.

The Role of Glasses Color with Mind Machines

Mind machines, or light and sound stimulation devices, use light as well as sound frequencies to help create a specific state of mind.  The glasses, or lightframes, come in several different color options and combinations according to the color of LEDs the glasses are made with.  But when you use any color of glasses, you will actually perceive many colors throughout a session.

People tend to see a little wider spectrum of colors when using white LEDs, making them a good choice for general use.  But you will see mostly white.  As with blue LEDs, you will see many colors, but predominantly blue.  In general, colors help one to create mood and ambiance.  People using light and sound for deeper work like for meditation or sleep often like using blue glasses.  People focusing on doing healing work such as visualizations often like to have some green in their dominant perceptions.  There are many people who report color as having a significant impact on their experience, but ultimately, it is the frequencies of light doing the majority of the work in terms guiding you to desired states – more so than the colors. But color can be a very powerful element in this equation!

Check out the effects of some colors as reported by users of light and sound machine technology:

  • Red Glasses: Red color LED glasses are the standard color glasses most people prefer. Red is still the basic color, and provide a wide range of visuals for majority of people. Red LEDs are the brightest of the colors (premium TruWhite is the brightest overall), and while the eye is most sensitive in the orange/yellow part of the spectrum red seems to give stronger stimulation. Red light is known for revitalizing physical strength and improving your sense of security.
  • Orange/Amber Glasses: Also called Amber, the Orange glasses are an in-between choice between the Red and the Yellow. For those that find the Red too intense but the Green too dim, the Orange glasses is the choice for and interesting variation. Also highly recommended as soft and subtle. Orange light is known for creativity, energizing you sexually, and promoting social skills.
  • Yellow Glasses: Yellow LED glasses are used primarily by individuals that like to change the visuals by changing glasses and colors. The Yellow LEDs are less intense in color than the Red and Green. Highly recommended as soft and subtle. Yellow light is known for promoting focus, stimulating the intellect, and for motivation.
  • Green Glasses: The Green LED glasses are recommended for light sensitive people. They are less bright than the red and thus more soothing for some individuals. Green light is known for being healing, tranquil and loving.
  • Ultra Green Glasses: The Ultra Green glasses are made with bright LEDs of the same brightness of the TruWhite™ glasses. The best way to experience the cool green color in the brightest mode available. Green light is known for healing, love, letting go, and inspiration.
  • CoolBlue Glasses: Mystique just seems to flow from CoolBlue Glasses! They are a wonderful tool for meditation and sleep. Many insomniacs swear by them. Clients love their trance-inducing effects. Blue light is also known for promoting self expression, understanding truth and help with decision-making.
  • Indigo Glasses: The Indigo glasses are a red/blue combination (2 LEDs each color per eye).  Customers report better and more vivid images. Indigo light is known for fostering spiritual awareness and sharpening intuition. It may also sharpen your visualizations and heighten your imagination.
  • SpectrumPro Glasses: The SpectrumPro glasses are a red/green combination (2 LEDs each color per eye). Colors are many, and multi-layered. Often, users report feeling optimistic and feeling a calm energy after a session with these glasses.
  • TruWhite™Glasses: Photosonix TruWhite glasses are made with white LEDs, a new breakthrough in LED technology. The white spectrum takes the stimulation to a deeper level and the experience has been subject to rave reviews. “Intense, vivid” visuals are often reported.
  • ColorTrack Glasses: ColorTrackTM glasses usher in a new era of light and sound technology.  During a light and sound session, you may choose one of 20 different colors, or choose instead to see the colors change…potentially producing millions of dazzling colors literally right before your eyes!  All in one pair of glasses.  You’ll never need another pair again! Review of ColorTrack Glasses by Photosonix

A review of the Photosonix ColorTrack glasses including a few suggestions for users of light and sound technology.

I have owned a Photosonix Nova Pro 100 L/S machine for approximately 6 years. I use my machine at least twice a day to relax and unwind, re energize, to explore other states, and for just plain enjoyment. Frequently my wife and I use the Nova Pro100 together – a feature on my machine for dual users.

Over time, I have acquired the following glasses for use with my L/S machine:

  1. Photosonix – True White
  2. Photosonix – Cool Blue
  3. Photosonix – Standard Red
  4. Mind Gear – Multicolor Glasses (10 color-toggle switches)
  5. Photosonix – ColorTrack glasses.
ColorTraCk multi colors The new ColorTrack glasses are indeed expensive with a current retail price of approximately $199. My wife convinced me to treat myself to them and so far, they are proving to be worth every penny!

I have been completely satisfied with all of my Photosonix equipment over the years, as it has consistently been very reliable, despite my occasional gravity tests, and regardless of heavy usage. In addition to being well constructed, Photosonix’s equipment doesn’t become obsolete six months after you buy it. My Nova Pro 100 after many years is still considered a top of the line machine, and the glasses I have had for years are still sold. I respect that.

So – let’s get down to the ColorTrack glasses. Despite thinking that the name ColorTrack sounded trendy at first, I really do love both the product and the features. The ColorTrack glasses are pre-programmed with 20 vivid color presets ranging from reds, blues, greens, golds, to purples, (basically the spectrum of colors), along with the actual ColorTrack function.

The ColorTracks have two switches mounted right on the glasses which you push for easy adjustments during a session. One switch changes the actual color you want, (20 of them are available along with the ColorTrack option) while the other switch adjusts the actual brightness.
This is nice, as you do not need to reach for the machine to adjust the brightness. If two people have adjustable glasses – or two ColorTrack glasses – each person can customize their own session. They also come with a detachable cord, which is nice if somehow the cord were to be damaged.

COLORTRACK: When you begin a L/S session if you enable the ColorTrack feature, the glasses will display the color that corresponds to the frequency of the session you are currently running as it moves through that session.

ColorTrack_red This makes for many interesting color changes during a session. The blues tend to come out and play during lower frequencies, the reds dance during higher ones etc. The combination of vivid color and broader spread across the glasses seems to lend itself to more lively shapes and patterns, even dimensions. In all, it has made the sessions more powerful for me.

In all, it has made the sessions more powerful for me.

BRIGHTNESS: This is the only potential problem I have found with these glasses thus far. If you are a person that typically has their LED glasses at full brightness, you might find the ColorTrack glasses to be a bit subdued. The ColorTrack glasses are bright enough for my wife and I, but are not as bright as the other models I have, except for the multicolor Mind-Gear glasses of about the same output.

Even so, they do seem to provide slightly better patterns and visuals and, from my experience, visuals are better without full on brightness. I felt compelled to mention this, as it could be an issue to some people, such as a visually impaired person.

LIGHT: I think the overall light output is about 75% to 80% of that of my other Photosonix glasses, which is probably fine for most users.

I have seen them advertised somewhere as being about the brightest L/S glasses out there. Based on my perception, that does not seem accurate. However, they are clearly the most entertaining glasses I have used. colortrack close_up

DOWNLOADABLE: I understand that future computer downloads for these glasses are planned, just as sessions are now for the Nova Pro 100, from Photosonix. I presume this will enable more color options.

FUN WITH COLORTRACK: Where this option is really a fun feature in my opinion is when you opt to pipe in music of your own choosing by way of the audio – not microphone – input jack on the Nova Pro 100. This is a neat option if you are using a Nova Pro 100 or a L/S machine that will let you input music and triggers the lights.

Since I am only familiar with the Nova Pro 100, you must be in manual operator mode or the audio signal just mixes in with a session and will not be picked up to trigger the lights. Additionally, when the Nova Pro 100 is in manual mode it will shut off every 15 minutes. This audio function was one I did not know the machine would do solo and without sessions, as I thought it would only trigger the lights with an AudioStrobe encoded CD.

AudioStrobe is a specialized CD with encoded information on the CD that triggers the lights at certain times during playback by frequency, but for me, I always preferred the machine internal sessions to that of the AudioStrobe CD’s.

However, once I obtained the ColorTrack glasses, I experimented and tried to input regular, classic rock and other music to discover it too would trigger the lights and I was pleasantly surprised at how nicely it worked. It seems the machine triggers based on higher frequencies of the music, as some music works much better than other types.

For example, I found, to name just a few, that music with drums and cymbals triggers it well, not the low end bass but higher end treble, even vocals sometimes. I had great success with a few songs, and have only tried a few so far, with aide by a slight increase in treble and moderate but not real high volume input from an external headphone jack on the other device. ColorTrack_blue

The following songs thus far worked very well by triggering a nice, visual multi-colored light show on ColorTrack Mode:

  1. South City Midnight Lady (Doobie Brothers);
  2. Money (Pink Floyd);
  3. Stan (Eminem);
  4. The Mask (Hisham);
  5. Hellagood (No Doubt); and
  6. Leave it (Yes).

I will be trying many more. I am sure most songs with percussion and wide range will work well, but I wanted to give a few examples. The machine acts as a `Color Organ’ if you are old enough to recall what those were like, (giving away my age here). Whatever you wish to call it, it is a very entertaining and legal way to be entertained. Have fun with it.

CONCLUSION: I feel these ColorTrack glasses are the best overall value and performing glasses you can buy. They are clearly the most entertaining, with full control during sessions right on the glasses. They are downloadable and you will not outgrow them or tire of the color options and features. Further, Photosonix has good technical support and a nice web site with excellent links for interesting reading. I actually have another pair on order, so my wife and I can enjoy them at the same time.

The only possible problem I see is probably limited to people with diminished light vision or people that really like a bright set of glasses. For me, if adjusted to their brightest setting, they are more than adequate with output. Certainly standard glasses and the supplied Photosonix headphones work well, but if you add in these new ColorTrack glasses, and perhaps better headphones for music, I believe your experience will be highly enhanced for years to come.

ColorTrack_green I am not affiliated with any company. I am a Social Worker and on a budget like most people. I write this as I noticed a lack of any reviews, which I know I, and others, look for when considering a product. So, I hope this helps.

Good luck. Enjoy.

Sincerely,
John Melnicoe, a personal user of light/sound equipment.

Mind Machines: How To Choose One

When purchasing your own unit, you must think about the main ways in which you want to use it. Will you simply be selecting from the list of pre-loaded sessions that comes with the unit, or will you want to program your own sessions, and have the option of downloading more? This decision alone will narrow down your decision significantly. Do you want an inexpensive, simple, non-programmable starter unit? Then the Sirius is for you. Will you want to share a huge variety of sessions with another person at the same time? Or have the ability to speak through a microphone to add your voice to the users experience (as many professionals do)? If so, then the Nova Pro is for you. Do you want to incorporate biofeedback into your light & sound sessions? If so, the Proteus (and ThoughtStream biofeedback unit) is for you. The Proteus also provides programmability and high-level visuals with dual-colored glasses – excellent for the explorer! We recommend the MindSpa for the person who’s serious about getting results in their training. Proteus

Sirius

The very popular Proteus is a great all-purpose machine. Users can choose from it’s 50 built-in sessions or create their own. It operates glasses with 2 colors of LEDs. Great as an entry-level machine or enhancement of a relaxation, meditation or learning routine. A lot of options for the money – an economical choice.
CHOOSING AND USING YOUR MACHINE

Once you have a unit of your own, using it is really quite simple. The user manual covers all the details, and provides a list of the pre-loaded sessions grouped by type (i.e. Relaxation, Energize, Meditations, etc.). Select a specific session, get comfortable, put on the headphones and glasses, hit “Play”, CLOSE YOUR EYES (the LEDs flash through your closed eyelids), and enjoy. During your experience, don’t do anything! Don’t try to force relaxation or focus – just “go with the flow”. You’ll soon realize the swirling colors and sounds have swept you off to a different place within your mind – one more peaceful and alert. A light & sound machine is a very effective tool for helping to overcome insomnia, as each of the machines available here have pre-loaded sessions for sleep enhancement. A beginning user should experience a session regularly (every day or close to that) for the first few weeks. Don’t overdo it — an hour a day is a lot.

Another decision to make when purchasing a machine is the color of glasses you like to have. Most systems come with a choice. Take a look at the amazing colors available, and their purposes:

STANDARD GLASSES

  • Red Glasses: Red color LED glasses are the standard color glasses most people prefer. Red is still the basic color, and provide a wide range of visuals for majority of people.

PREMIUM GLASSES

  • Ultra Green Glasses: The Ultra Green glasses are made with bright LEDs of the same brightness of the TruWhite™ glasses. The best way to experience the cool green color in the brightest mode available. Green light is known for healing, love, letting go, and inspiration.

Mind Machines: What They Can Do

WHAT CAN MIND MACHINES BE USED FOR?

Light and sound stimulation can help people achieve many things! It is a powerful relaxation and stress management tool.  Meditation can be learned or drastically improved – it takes people a fraction of the time to reach and maintain deep meditative states than before.  The light and sound frequencies gently urge the user to remain in the “zone” of mental alertness and physical relaxation, and help the user “get it”…or feel what that target state really is.

Users of light and sound machines often report feelings of balance, connectedness and even floating sensations.  Thoughts or insights with transcendental meaning can surface.  Alone, or combined with hypnosis CDs or favorite music, profoundly deep states of consciousness can be reached.  Expert meditators report attaining much deeper states with light and sound – and for longer periods of time – than ever before.

Many users report vivid dreams when using a light and sound machines.  Building upon that, some specifically practice letting their bodies drift off into deep relaxation while keeping their minds focused and aware.  Spending time in this state can increase one’s ability to lucid dream – especially if they program, or repeat to themselves that they will remember their dreams when asleep and try to re-enter this mind awake/body asleep state at night. Light and sound machines also have sessions included to help guide it’s user into sleep.  The frequencies of the light and sound progressively slow until they are operating in the delta range, the range of deep sleep.  In this way, many use their machines as a sleeping aid and a tool to help them overcome nights of insomnia.

Light and sound stimulation is known to help learning and concentration too.  By entering a relaxed state of focus, learning and memory become much more efficient.  Many individuals with attention deficits can benefit by actually doing sessions in the beta, or low-beta range (or using a pre-programmed session for learning or focus).  Individuals with test anxiety enjoy huge improvements by doing such a session before testing, as they find their minds primed to perform, instead of caught in a haze of panic and uneasiness.

Use it or lose it!  You’ve heard this term many times in regard to mental acuity.  Light and sound stimulation is a fantastic way to exercise your brain.  Visual and auditory stimulation act across a huge neural network. Keeping these neurons firing on a regular basis gently act as ‘neuronal aerobics’ to keep your mind active and in tip-top shape!

Finally, if you’re into  psychedelia, than light and sound machines are for you.  An otherwordly array of colors dance around your field of vision.  Our machines also have built-in entertainment sessions that give the user a sense of spinning, spiraling, flying, etc.  Individual perceptions are different from person to person, but always a trip!  Yes, there are even built-in sessions for this too.

Mind Machines: How they Work

Humans have always felt a response to sound and rhythmic light. Past cultures used chants and torches to enter trances…we go to rock concerts and get revved by strobing lights and pounding bass…and we are calmed by the gentle flickering and crackling coming from the fireplace.

And, our brains need stimulation like light and sound to maintain their neuronal matrix and make new formations. The parts of our cortex that process light and sound in this way are highly connected to other parts of our brain, and and have the ability to help translate patterns of light and sound into associations for learning, relaxation, creativity or focus.

Light and sound stimulation from devices called mind machines is a controlled form of this natural response of ours – a nicely contained primitive ceremony, or concert, or a cozy holiday fire just for you! Much time and research has gone into the design of light and sound technology, creating affordable, hi-grade, effective tools for functioning.

Mind machines produce specific, rhythmic stimulation and energy based on this research. We know the human brain has a certain rhythm when relaxed, another rhythm when focused, and so on. During a session with a mind machine, your overall brain rhythms, or frequencies, begin to follow the type of stimulation you choose. In this way, you are able to go to go past all your activity of a busy day and enjoy profound relaxation, focus, sleep, meditation, and dazzling entertainment!

HOW DO MIND MACHINES WORK?

The human brain is an electrical organ. It works according to electrical potentials and frequencies – just like our heart. And as different heart rates relate to different states of your body, different brain rhythms relate to different states of mind.

These rhythms, or brainwaves, are read by an electroencephalograph (EEG) machine and are generally grouped into four main categories: Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta. Furthermore, each brainwave category goes along with specific mental states, like focus, relaxation, meditation and sleep, respectively.

Light and sound stimulation is a way to enhance your ability to enter a desired state of mind. The stimulation provided by a light and sound machine is predetermined by the type of session you choose. If you want to relax for example, the lights will gently pulsate at a frequency in the alpha range – as that is the frequency of a relaxed human brain. When stimulated in that range, your brain begins to actually enter that mental state.

The session types can be quite elaborate, including those for specific meditations, energizing, visualization, right or left hemisphere stimulation, breath pacing, and peak performance! That’s just to name a few.

There are 4 parts to the light and sound experience:

1. The control unit
2. The headphones
3. The light-emitting glasses
4. Your intent

The control units are about the size of a Walkman with a few simple buttons. They vary in capability. The MindPlace Company carries a full selection of machines from basic one-person “select and play”, to complex two-person, fully programmable. All allow the user to adjust the light and sound levels. Some can connect to a computer, allowing more sessions to be downloaded or custom created using included software.

The headphones transmit the advanced sound technology that the control unit produces. During a session, the rhythm, pitch and timing with the light is elaborately orchestrated. Much of the sound in these devices is based on the concept of binaural beats.

Binaural beats result when the headphones emit two tones of nearly identical frequencies at the same time – one in each ear. Our cortex perceives the difference between the tones as a third frequency (a binaural beat), which feels like it is being generated in the core of the brain.

Aside from this being an amazing sensation, the binaural beat is actually guiding your brain toward the target state you chose in your session because it is perceived as an alpha frequency, or a beta, and so on. If the difference between the tones in each earphone is an alpha frequency of 10 Hz, and the light frames are pulsing at 10 Hz, then our brain will begin to follow, and enter an alpha state of relaxation. As you experience light and sound stimulation more often, your brain begins to enter a desired state more easily, and functions more efficiently.

The light-emitting glasses resemble sunglasses, with 3-4 LEDs mounted inside the “lens”.  Glasses are available with different colors of LEDs for varying effects and ambiance.

Mind Machine Review: MindSpa vs Procyon

It can definitely be difficult to choose between the MindSpa and Procyon machines as they all offer really great options. But let’s just say whichever machine you end up choosing, you will not be disappointed as they are both highly effective and highly enjoyable!

Sometimes it helps to think about how you see yourself using the machine – for what purpose. If you are into software and creating your own sessions and doing some experimenting (meaning you are pretty computer savvy and desire to tinker around that way), then you’d probably get a lot of satisfaction out of the Procyon. You really can do a lot with the Procyon but there is a learning curve there with the concepts and software. The MindSpa software is also great, but a little more user friendly in my opinion and probably not as expandable (but doesn’t work with Vista yet). However, many people purchase both of these machines all the time with no intention of getting into the programming side of them, rather desiring to use only the built-in sessions.

Procyon Light and Sound Mind MachineIf you primarily plan to use the built-in sessions, then the Procyon gives you more session variety right out of the box. The MindSpa doesn’t have as many built-ins, but the sessions they do have are really, really excellent. The manufacturer touts that their sessions are based in a higher level of clinical research and are written by a clinical psychologist based on her actual use of light and sound with patients and research. Also, the MindSpa has the ability to add on session “packs”, or libraries, also rooted in a clinical approach on a specific theme like learning.

In terms of glasses, the Procyon obviously has multi-colored glasses with are very cool. However, keep in mind that during a session, the color outputted by them changes constantly throughout the session. The colors do tend to stay in a general range (like mostly blue hues during a deep meditation session), but not purely. People who are into color a lot for mood and “psychedelia” love this. People who are into purer color and are using light and sound more for a specific purpose like relaxation or meditation tend to like just white glasses or MindSpa Light and Sound Mind Machinejust blue glasses like those included in the MindSpa (it comes with a pair of each). Additionally, the MindSpa glasses in many peoples’ opinion are a little more effective due to the LED placement within the glasses frame – they are spread apart for a peripheral placement rather than clustered centrally. You get a little better stimulation this way and can wear them with eyes open if desired.

Bottom line: Choose the Procyon for a bit more of an exploration angle, and the MindSpa to work a bit more on mind state achievement like serious meditation, focus or relaxation. Also, the MindSpa manufacturer provides great customer service for technical support should you need it for software questions or repairs. The Procyon manufacturer – MindPlace – has a fantastic support forum.

Brain Evolution System Review

Everybody in the world of self-development agrees on one simple thing:

Meditation is good!

The benefits are truly enormous: improved mind power, increased IQ levels, greater energy, self-enlightenment, less required sleep, and more.

But for many of us, it can be a little difficult to get started if we don’t know how. And it’s not easy to set aside time to learn if we don’t already have an established routine.

In this modern world, many of us just have a hard time finding time!

Perhaps you’ve heard about brainwave meditation CDs before. Hemi-Sync technology is perhaps the best known example.

Long story short, brainwave meditation CDs basically contain specially-created sounds. When listened to with headphones, these sounds help to influence your brainwaves – a process known as “brainwave entrainment.” These sounds basically take your brainwaves down to a low frequency state – similar to that achieved after years of meditation practice.

By listening to these CDs each day, you can begin enjoying the many great benefits of meditation – yet without the need for endless years of strict practice.

Another similar product, Brain Evolution System - or “BrainEv” – has been causing waves in the industry since its launch back in 2006.

It brings about all the benefits of true meditation – greater energy, increased IQ, emotional mastery, sharper thinking, heightened creativity, better relationships, improved memory, less required sleep, greater relaxation levels. And it does so with a new type of presentation.

BrainEv is a 6-CD system that contains beautiful 30-minute audio recordings that you can listen to as you fall asleep, or while waking up so it doesn’t impact on your schedule.

BrainEv is among the most technically advanced sound technology on the market as it employs something known as ” 3P DEAP ” technology, intertwining three different methods of brainwave entrainment together – to produce truly industry-pioneering results. That essentially guarantees you’ll experience the most profound benefits around – such as a boost in your mind power, full body relaxation, enhanced creativity, and greater energy levels.

Hypnosis in a Nutshell

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness which results in an increased receptiveness and response to suggestion. While associated with relaxation, hypnosis is actually an escape from an overload of message units, resulting in relaxation. A very important thing to mention here is that one never loses awareness or control during a session.  Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist in the presence of the subject, or may be self-administered (“self-suggestion” or “autosuggestion”).

Hypnosis is a guided tour of your subconscious! Be taken into deeper aspects of your mind for a wide range of goals like healing, overcoming insomnia, finding solutions, weight loss, and so much more. A simple way to experience hypnosis is in the comfort of your own home in familiar surroundings through downloadable, instant hypnosis mp3′s.  Listen to a hypnosis program during a light and sound session for even more potent results!

A Review of Mind Machines

Mind machines are tools that help you enter altered states of consciousness (also called neurotechnology, or psychotechnology). Primarily, the term “mind machine” refers to light & sound machines, but also includes a broader range of tools for biofeedback , sleep, dream enhancement and binaural beat technology like Hemi-Sync. These cutting edge devices are rapidly becoming tools of choice to explore beginning or advanced meditation, self hypnosis, sleep and dream enhancement, learning, consciousness expansion, or stress management just to name a few.

Light and sound machines produce specific, rhythmic pulses of light and sound patterns which can be perceived as complex colors, shapes or even feelings. We know the human brain has a certain rhythm when relaxed, another rhythm when focused, and so on. During a light and sound session, your overall brain rhythms, or frequencies, begin to follow the type of session (and therefore frequency) you choose.

If you want to relax for example, the lights will gently pulsate at a frequency in the alpha range – as that is the frequency of a relaxed human brain. When stimulated as such, your brain begins to actually enter that mental state. The session types can be quite elaborate, including those for specific meditations, energizing, visualization, right or left hemisphere stimulation, sleep, or dazzling entertainment! That’s just to name a few.
